In one of the biggest upsets in road cycling, Aussie Cadel Evans wins the rainbow Jersey in Switzerland only 3km from his European home. Evans made up for a disappointing Tour de France by winning the biggest race in cycling. Maybe it was the fact that he had a great team around him this time in that he had the best of the Australian riders in his corner. Riders like Stuart O’Grady and Michael Rodgers and Simon Gerrans [ who finished 10th]. Evans is the first Australian to win the the World Road champs. He will now get to wear the Rainbow jersey for the next year and also at the next world champs in Geelong.

TIM’S FUNDRAISING FOR HEARTKIDS
My wife Virginia and I recently had our second child, a beautiful little boy Lucas Jay who was born on 2nd July. When Virginia was 20 weeks pregnant we found out that Lucas had a heart condition called Transposition of the Great Arteries and would need open heart surgery soon after birth. The following 4 ½ months were obviously a pretty scary time for us as we waited for Lucas to arrive. HeartKids were a great support to us during this time. They were there for us with much needed information, advice and support. Our story is actually a fantastic one and although Lucas did have open heart surgery when he was just 5 days old, he is now fixed, has had an amazing recovery and should not require any further surgery. Mikayla just adores him and we are all just so thankful to have him home and healthy. Most heart kids are not this lucky and require numerous surgeries and have ongoing issues which is why we want to do what we can to help (more…)

Great day had by all at today’s Mountain bike 6 hour race at Forest today. Forest is fast becoming the place to ride for Victorians. Its lush trials in the Otway rangers have to be riden.
Todays race ran over a 12km course of beautifull flowing single track. The bearms on this track are amazing , they just throw you from left to right with amazing power.
5 Topgear riders took on the challange of of the solo catorgory. Peter ,Garreth ,Nick ,Carsten , Avner and Bryce all rode well.
The stars of the show were our girls pairs team who rode strongly into 3rd place. Great work Bec and Lucinda for taking on the challenge today and also collecting a cash prize.

A race report from Greg who competed in the Geo Quest at Forster NSW in the weekend…..
Well we finished, 32.5 hours (8.30am Saturday to 5pm Sunday). Commenced in the Barrington Tops, high in the great dividing range and about 3 degrees.
Started with 6km bush bash to pick up 3 checkpoints. Took us 2hr 13 min, bashing through dense scrub (lantana) and up and down a river. Hands and arms cut and scratched, feet always wet from multiple river crossings.
Then off on a 25k mountain bike, and I mean mountain! I believe it was about 900m at the summit. This was a slog with many instances of pushing the bike, but what a great descend. Through private properties with only the hint of a track, all the time navigating to pick up checkpoints. 2hr 45m. There was one crap bit, one the descent down a steep ridgeline with no track and an awesome view the rider in front of me kept going through fresh cow pats. Needless to say when riding about 2 metres behind I could not avoid the spray. The outcome was smelly and didn’t taste the best. (more…)

- The Specialized duo of world champion Christoph Sauser and U23 World Cup leader Burry Stander will debut the SRAM XX group here in Houffalize. According to Stander and team mechanics, the group has a number of benefits
* lighter than previous components, with the rear cogset all one piece (except for the top / largest cog)
* a rear derailleur that will handle up to a 36 tooth cog, allowing riders to run a 2×9 system, for further weight reduction
* completely redesigned shift / brake levers (more…)
