A race report from Greg who competed in the Geo Quest at Forster NSW in the weekend…..
Well we finished, 32.5 hours (8.30am Saturday to 5pm Sunday). Commenced in the Barrington Tops, high in the great dividing range and about 3 degrees.
Started with 6km bush bash to pick up 3 checkpoints. Took us 2hr 13 min, bashing through dense scrub (lantana) and up and down a river. Hands and arms cut and scratched, feet always wet from multiple river crossings.
Then off on a 25k mountain bike, and I mean mountain! I believe it was about 900m at the summit. This was a slog with many instances of pushing the bike, but what a great descend. Through private properties with only the hint of a track, all the time navigating to pick up checkpoints. 2hr 45m. There was one crap bit, one the descent down a steep ridgeline with no track and an awesome view the rider in front of me kept going through fresh cow pats. Needless to say when riding about 2 metres behind I could not avoid the spray. The outcome was smelly and didn’t taste the best. (more…)

I did this race 2 years ago and highly recommend it. It is one of the best organised races you will go to and the course is amazing. With the start at Craddle Mt and the finish at the beach in Strahan, you wont be disappointed with the beautiful scenery. Get in quick to avoid disappointment , it will sell out! See press release below……..
“Wildside 2010 entries open
Entries will open for the 2010 edition of the Pure Tasmania Wildside mountain bike stage race on Monday, June 1. The Wildside was the first multi-day stage race in Australia. It will begin next from Cradle Mountain on January 30 and run for four days until it ends in Strahan.
“There can only be one Wildside, and we’re confident of attracting a full field of 450 riders,” said Race Director Nic Deka.
Next year’s event will give more attention to teams. “The event has focussed on individual participation. We have had a team aspect but it has always been low key. We recognise that the riders and sponsors are keen for the teams to be more prominent,” said Deka. Among the favorite teams are those from the AIS elite development team based out of Tasmania, discovertasmania.com.

Tom Boonen confirmed yet again he’s the king of the cobblestones after winning the “queen of the classics” for the third time in five years at Paris-Roubaix on Sunday.
Just a week after Stijn Devolder defended his title at Tour of Flanders aboard a Tarmac SL2, Boonen did the same thing on a muggy, windy Easter Sunday aboard an S-Works Roubaix SL2, giving the pair a unique place in history of the becoming the first teammates to defend their respective victories in the Flanders-Roubaix double.
“To win alone in Roubaix is like a dream,” Boonen said. “I honestly didn’t think I would win today. I didn’t think I had good legs, but I was at the right place at the decisive moment and I started to feel better.”
Winning Roubaix – arguably cycling’s most difficult race with 52.9km of rough cobblestones spread over 27 sections in the 259km run from Compiègne to Roubaix — is never easy, something Boonen was quick to admit.
The Quick Step captain overcame a crash, a mechanical problem and avoided two costly crashes on the decisive Carrefour de l’Arbre cobblestone section with 17km to go to drop an elite group of six leading riders to claim victory in the best possible way.
